Contrary to some media reports, the incarcerated former IGP, Gen Kale Kayihura has not been mistreated in any way, his lawyers have said.

Jet Tumwebaze, a lawyer with Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) told NBS TV that the former police chief is being looked after well.

Kayihura was arrested on June 13 and is being detained at Makindye Military barracks.

"He is well. He sleeps in a house with a sitting room and a bedroom not a cell like some people have been saying," Tumwebaze said.

He said Kayihura has not yet recorded any statement neither has he been interrogated by the military.

"By the time you work in the military for 33 years, a summon doesn’t sway you. Gen. Kayihura is innocent of all the crimes the media has labeled against him," Tumwebaze said.

The lawyer said that Kayihura has been granted unfettered access to his family and lawyers.

Tumwebaze said that whereas as his lawyers they are concerned about his detention beyond 48 hours, they also well aware of his wider status in the military and the nation will be informed by military.
