Lt. Gen. Gutti Reappointed To Head UPDF General Martial

Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti and his team have been reappointed by the High Command to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) General Court Martial.

The members of the court include Lt Gen. Andrew Gutti chairman, Lt. Col. Gideon Katinda, Maj. Sarah Navuga, Capt. Alex Arthur Muhwezi, Capt. Wilfred Nyero, Capt. Annet Nekesa, Sgt Muzoora Benson, Maj. Emmanuel Rubyakana and Maj. Fredrick Tamale Lwanga.

Others are Maj. James Ali, Maj. Oliver Mutegeki, Capt. James Chemondos, Lt. Allen Nalubega, WO 1- Omara Jimmy, Lt. Col. Benson Timu, John B. Mulindwa and Capt Angela Laker

Gen.Gutti was appointed in 2016 replacing the late Maj Gen Levi Karuhanga who died in May 2016.

Gen Gutti who joined the army in 1986 has served in the various positions in the last 30 years.

Gen Gutti served as commander of the African Union Mission (AMISOM) in Somalia, taking over from Major General Fred Mugisha during whose tenure, AMISOM helped to uproot the Al-Shabaab militia from fixed positions in Mogadishu.

Prior to the appointment, he was the commandant of the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College at Kimaka, Jinja. He also served as the 3rd division commander and Chief of Operation and Training in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces-UPDF

According to the Uganda People’s Defence Act 1992, there shall be a field court-martial which shall consist of the field commander of the operation as the chairman and eight other members appointed in writing by the deploying authority before departure.

A field court-martial shall only operate in circumstances where it is impracticable for the offender to be tried by a unit disciplinary committee or division court-martial
