Uganda to host 3rd World University Netball Championship

Uganda is set to host the 3rd World University Netball championship slated to take place in Kampala from 17th to 21st September 2018.

Peninah Kabenge, the President of the Association of Uganda University Sports said the Uganda Netball Team 2018 is optimistic of excelling at the championship given the selection of best players by the Association of University Sports across the country and the financial and material support

they have received from the National Council of Sports.

“We have a team of 30 players who will be taken through a rigorous training from now; twice a week to ensure Team Uganda 2018 excels in the forthcoming World  Netball championships, slated to take place in September in Kampala”, she said.

Association of Uganda University Sports Secretary General Patrick Ssebuliba said a total of 120 countries are expected to take part in the Kampala World Netball championships.

“So far, those countries who have confirmed attendance include: USA, Malaysia, Sri Lanka,Fiji, South Africa, Namibia, Uganda and Kenya”, he said.

Assistant Secretary General for the National Council of Sports Dr Patrick Ogwel said government is committed to support Uganda netball team.

“It’s a great moment for the launch of university netball team. We shall give all the national support to the university national team to add mileage to government of Uganda," he said.
