SC Villa lose to give rivals Vipers advantage in Uganda Premier League

Record champions SC Villa’s efforts to end their 14 run without winning the league were on Saturday dealt a huge blow when they were beaten by army side UPDF in the Uganda Premier League.

A Ronald Owiny 55th goal was enough to sink the Jogoos as the army side piled more pressure on them preventing them from recovering.

UPDF’s defence led by goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya will also be credited for fighting and stopping on form striker Martin Kiiza from seeing the back of the net on a number of occasions.

The army side however suffered a huge blow when their marksman Suleiman Majjanjalo was shown marching orders only a minute after getting their goal for accumulating a second yellow card in a game played at Bombo military grounds.

The record champions had come into the game with hope of trying to close the five point gap on top by title rivals Vipers SC who had beaten Police two nil at the St.Mary’s stadium on Friday.

SC Villa remain second on 52 points, five behind table leaders Vipers SC who are on top whereas KCCA FC are third on 51 points but with a game at hand.

In the relegation zone, Express FC who were held to a one all draw are still 14th the same number of points with Proline who are 15th on 27 points whereas Masavu are at the bottom with two games left to the end of the season.

Vipers now have on hand set on the title of the Azam Uganda Premier League.
