Uganda team returns from Commonwealth games tomorrow, but less by two

The First Lady and Minister for Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni will on Thursday officially welcome the Ugandan Contingent from Commonwealth games at Entebbe Airport.

According to officials, the first batch will arrive aboard Emirates airlines at 13:05pm and the second batch aboard South African airlines will touch down half an hour later. The second batch will be the focus as it carries two gold medals thanks to the neck of Joshua Cheptegei, who scooped them in his disciplines.

However, the 69-man team is missing two athletes; Irene Kasuubo and Kalidi Batuusa who vanished in Australia.

The two weightlifters are said to have accessed their passports from the official in charge before vanishing immediately after participating in their disciplines.

State Minister of Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi, advised the two athletes to return to the country as soon as possible, citing he is tired of having athletes from the teams always vanishing when abroad.

“If they do not return, they will never represent Uganda again, , we are going to pout stricter measures on this athletes that disappear when they travel to represent the country, they are giving us a bad image,” he said.

Bakkabulindi tasked the officials with the team to explain how athletes accessed their passports to enable them vanish.

Meanwhile President Museveni will host the team for at State House Entebbe next week.
