No one will play with our peace, says army deputy reserve commander

Newly promoted Maj.Gen, Stephen Rwabantu, who is also the deputy commander for the UPDF Reserve Force has warned they will not hesitate to reign in on anyone who tries to destabilise the country.

Rwabantu was recently promoted from Brigadier to Major General by president Museveni.

Speaking at the function to decorate the promoted officers, Maj.Gen. Rwabantu said him and a few others fought hard to elevate the country to where it is right now, adding they cannot allow anyone play with the precious gift of peace they fought for.

“The army you see here was because of efforts of by president Museveni and we must congratulate him for being able to mobilise young people like myself which was not an easy job,” Rwabantu said.

“If you want to mess up with the peace we are enjoying, the crocodile in me will come out.”

Rwabantu said he was nicknamed ‘Goonya’ translated as crocodile in English during their days in the bush.

He said his relationship with President Museveni is is now coming to 40 years adding that he has not on any single day deserted his commander-in-chief since the bush war days.

“When he(Museveni) called upon young people to join him fight Amin, I was among the first and we fought Amin. In 1980 when the elections were rigged, I also joined him to go the bush and up to now he calls me ‘Goonya’(crocodile). If President Museveni calls upon people to fight against those destabilizing the country, I will be the first to come.”

“Those who want to disturb our peace should think twice. Some of us are causalities of the bush war and we cannot allow such to return. If you want to disturb our peace, the ‘Goonya’ will come out.”
