Patiently study your partner before marriage- Bishop Kaggwa

The Bishop of Masaka diocese, John Baptist Kaggwa has called upon couples intending to get married to take maximum precautions in understanding their potential partners if society is to avert the current challenges that are bogging the marriage institution. He says couples should exercise utmost patience with one another.

The institution of marriage is facing various challenges both traditionally and within the church that many have ended up divorced or in utter frustration. Kaggwa says many of the issues are arising right from the point of partner selection.

He cautioned intending couples to guard against future frustrations and failed marriages, urging all parties intending to marry to take time to understand the people they intend to spend the rest of their lives with.

“Be careful in your selections, select a person who you have studied very well at least of whom you are informed,” he said.

“Many of these marriages are casual meetings, you meet someone somewhere, then you cling onto her or him but without knowing their background,” he added.

The Bishop also calls for patience among those already married saying only this can counter the current challenges in marriage.

“For those who are already married, I cannot say you made a mistake but you have to bear each other because once you marry you can not be separated.”

“So at least be patient with each other try to understand one another and then know their short comings and be able to forgive.”

Bishop Kggwa made the call at Rubaga cathedral during a mass in which City businessman John Sabalamu renewed his marriage vows to his wife Ruth Sebalamu as they celebrated their silver jubilee.

He noted that such church renewals of vows are not mandatory in church, but that they are a key driver that couples should use daily to remind themselves of the promise they made to God to uphold the family institution.

As they celebrated twenty-five years in marriage, the couple was appreciated for their contribution to the business developments not in Buganda alone but the country too.
