NBL Playoffs: Betway Power in comfortable win

Betway Power on Friday night stopped Ndejje University Angels 81-62 in their first game of the National Basketball league playoffs at YMCA Arena.

The Power side who now lead the best of three series 1-0 had a comfortable game winning all their four quarters.

The first and second quarter ended 24-11 and 40-29 while the third and fourth ended 65-52 and a final 81-62.

Power took the advantage of first breaks making over 8 points in a row in the first quarter as Ndejje struggled to convert their baskets.

Power's Paul Odong scored a game high 19 points while Michael Makiadi made 15 points.

For the Ndejje side, Michael Otieno scored 12 points while Derrick Katumba made 10. The two sides will still face off for the second and third games to determine who qualifies for the semi finals.

Power, who finished second in last year's NBL finals after loosing to four times champions City Oilers, hope they can make it again to the finals.

For the Ndejje team, Coach Obedi Walker hopes his team that has played a great regular season stopping Oilers and other big teams will qualify at least for the finals.

In other games to follow, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons who are 4th in the table will play Kampala International University (KIU)Titans, while Pemba Warrios, who are on top of the table, will play against 8th position Just Kip Living (JKL)Dolphins.

City Oilers who are second on the table standings will play  Our Savior who are in the 7th position.

In the ladies category, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Leopards, who were second in last year's championship, face off with Kampala International University(KIU) Rangers. Defending champions Uganda Christian University(UCU) Lady Canons play Javon Lady Phenoms.

Just Kip Living (JKL) Lady Dolphins will play Magic Stormers, while A1 Challenge are drawn with Nkumba Lady Marines.

The winning two teams will represent Uganda in the FIBA Zone Five African championships.
