Age-limit: MP Latif Sebaggala praises police

In a rare move, Latif Sebaggala, the Kawempe North MP, has praised the Uganda Police Force for providing security at his consultative meetings regarding the age limit bill.

Speaking at a rally in Kikaya, Kisaasi on Friday Sebaggala told the rally that the role of the police is to maintain law and order not to engage in partisan politics.

"I have liked the way how the DPC Kira Road has handled this rally unlike what happened on Tuesday in Mpererwe where they had brought over 12 teargas vehicles and mambas. Here in Kisaasi we have seen that the DPC and police have tried to do their work by giving us security because their role is to keep law and order to ensure that the rallies go on peacefully," Sebaggala said.

Sebaggala added: "This is what we want from police. The moment they cooperate with us, we shall also cooperate with them and if they are not ready to cooperate we shall definitely not cooperate as long as they do not want to listen. But we expect them to act professionally.’’

Many age limit bill consultation meetings organised by opposition politicians have been violently broken up by the police.

Last month, police fired teargas to disperse people in Kasubi who had convened to listen to their area MP, Moses Kasibante.
