Police break silence on fight with UPDF over late Kaweesi ‘girlfriend’

The police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye has said that the scuffle with the army, a  sister   security agency  was caused by Christine Mbabazi Muhooza, a lady who claims to be a girlfriend for the deceased police spokesperson, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

On Thursday, there was an impasse between police and the UPDF at Mbabazi’s home in Lungujja, in Rubaga division.

Addressing journalists on Monday at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kasingye said that the lady called Old Kampala police and their counterparts from Nateete over unknown people who had locked her inside the house and sought for police intervention.

“Our police officers rushed there to find out what had happened and found armed UPDF officers,”Kasingye told journalists.

“The UPDF officers stopped police from accessing the entrance prompting them to stay there until Friday.”

Kasingye said that police remained at the residence waiting for deployment of a neutral force as investigations into the matter continue.

The Special Forces Command(SFC), the elite force mandated to protect the president has since taken over security of the home of Mbabazi.

According to Kasingye, SFC will carry out investigations into the matter and would later hand over the outcome to police for the case to be taken to court.

However according to Mbabazi, the scuffle came as a result of police that wanted to arrest her over information connected to the murder of late Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March.

She says that police wanted to flex muscles with UPDF officers that had been attached to her home by Internal Security Organization and the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence(CMI).
