“This honour highlights Uganda’s unique offerings and boosts our visibility in a market that already sends us about 30,000 visitors annually. With direct flights between Entebbe and Mumbai, we expect these numbers to rise,” Irunga said.

Uganda’s presence at the expo drew interest from over 300 Indian travel partners eager to explore opportunities in promoting the East African nation.

Beyond wildlife and primate tracking, Irunga noted that India’s historical ties to Uganda were a major point of interest, particularly the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi at the Source of the Nile and the legacy of Aldina Visram’s pioneering trade in Uganda.

With Uganda Airlines now operating three weekly flights between Entebbe and Mumbai, tourism authorities are banking on improved connectivity to increase Indian arrivals.

UTB is prioritizing engagement with Indian travel agencies and investors to enhance awareness of Uganda’s attractions and cultural linkages.

The Ugandan delegation at OTM 2025, which included Uganda Airlines and the Uganda High Commission in India, held discussions on boosting tourism numbers, with a particular focus on strengthening the Entebbe–Mumbai route.

Uganda also caught the attention of India’s film industry, with talks underway to revive a major Indian film project that would showcase the country’s scenic landscapes, potentially elevating its global visibility.

Additionally, new partnerships were secured with leading Indian tour operators and travel agencies, a move expected to create customized travel packages for Indian tourists.

Irunga noted that the enthusiasm from Indian businesses signaled strong demand for Uganda’s tourism experiences.

With over 35,000 Indian tourists already visiting Uganda annually, UTB views the market as a priority for expansion in 2025 and beyond.

“We are committed to building on this momentum and ensuring that Uganda remains a top choice for Indian travelers seeking wildlife, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism in Africa,” Irunga said.
