A sense of shock and distress spread among local fishermen on the River Nile when they stumbled upon the lifeless body of an unidentified man floating in the water.

The grim discovery unfolded at Malindi-Wakisi, near Bujjagaali Dam in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District.

Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto confirmed the incident, disclosing that the unidentified body had been spotted afloat on the Nile by vigilant fishermen who promptly alerted the authorities.

The body, in a state of decomposition, exhibited visible signs of decay around its forehead, feet, and limbs. Butoto affirmed that the police, aided by the fishermen, successfully retrieved the body from the water.

In a bid to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the man's demise, the body was transported to the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination, while investigations into the cause of death were initiated.

"We are taking all necessary steps to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident. Our priority is to establish whether the cause of death was due to drowning or other factors," stated Butoto.

As the investigation progresses, the police have issued an appeal to individuals with missing relatives to come forward and verify whether the deceased is their loved one.
