UNDP and Cheptegei Foundation Announce Second Edition of Elgon Half Marathon
The event is scheduled for November 2 in Mbale City and it will feature Joshua Cheptegei, the reigning Olympic 10000m champion and world record-holder in the 5000m and 10000m events.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation (JOCDEF) have unveiled the second edition of the Elgon Half Marathon.

The event is scheduled for November 2 in Mbale City.

This year’s marathon will highlight vital issues such as climate action, biodiversity conservation in the Elgon region, and inclusive community engagement within the tourism sector.

Additionally, the event aims to raise awareness and advocate for the elimination of gender-based violence (GBV).

Participants can choose from three race categories: a 21km half marathon, a 10km race, and a 5km run.

The racecourse will offer breathtaking views through the scenic foothills of Mount Elgon National Park.

Registration is open at [bit.ly/elgonhalfmarathon](bit.ly/elgonhalfmarathon) for a fee of Shs30,000.

The registration package includes an official running kit featuring a running vest, water bottle, and kit bag, as well as opportunities to win medals and other prizes.

Proceeds from the marathon will support JOCDEF's community transformation initiatives.

The event has garnered support from several government entities and private sector companies.

Key partners include the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), National Forestry Authority (NFA), National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), and Uganda Athletics Federation.

Private sector sponsors include Uganda Airlines, Hima Cement, Stanbic Bank, Total Energies, Infinix, Crown Beverages, and Nile Breweries, among others.
