Sseremba, who had sought the NUP flag, rejected the party electoral committee’s decision to award the ticket to another contender.
He accused the process of bias and failing to reflect the voters’ will in the constituency.
On Wednesday, Sseremba formalized his independent bid by picking nomination forms at the Electoral Commission offices in Bukomansimbi.
“The people of Bukomansimbi North know me well. I am determined to serve them whether I am under a party or not. If NUP has denied me the card, I will still be on the ballot as an independent candidate,” he said shortly after securing the forms.
Political analysts warn that Sseremba’s move could split NUP’s support base in a constituency that has historically been key to the party’s strength in the Masaka sub-region.
NUP officials in Bukomansimbi have urged party members to back the official flag bearer, emphasizing party loyalty.
As the 2026 general elections approach, the political temperature in Bukomansimbi North continues to rise, with voters set to decide whether allegiance to a party or to an individual candidate will shape their choice.
