Kagadi health officials in drive to sensistise locals against Mpox, Ebola

Kagadi Health Department has embarked on sensitization on preventive measures against the spread of Monkey Pox, Ebola, Crimean Congo fever and other contagious diseases.

The Kagadi District Epidemiologist who doubles as the disease surveillance officer Thembo Silvano while sensitizing staff and students at Kagadi secondary school said Kagadi district has earlier been hit by various pandemics ranging from Cholera on Lake Albert shores, Crimean Congo fever, Rift Valley fever, Ebola, red eyes, COVID-19, Marburg and the impending M-POX among others where People lost lives at Kagadi Hospital.

He says Kagadi Health workers have embarked on visiting schools to sensitize learners and school administration on mitigation measures.

Thembo  clarified that people have relaxed on hand washing, sanitizing, wearing masks and observance of personal hygiene calling on people to avoid sharing materials, interaction with wild animals and unwashed hands.

"These pandemics are deadly and into the communities so we need to be vigilant by alerting people " he said

Ramadan Nyondo Barongo the Head teacher Kagadi secondary school told the health team that apart from registering progress in academics and non academics areas the school has put stringent measures on security of the learners against unnecessary movements and that the school is equipped with sanitary facilities to prevent any disease outbreaks.

"The sensitization by government has been on, so as a government school we have ensured all this is in presence, including an isolation room, but we appeal for more equipment to deal with these pandemics in case a we get them" he said

Tumusiime Benjamin the Kagadi deputy resident commissioner appealed to all schools, churches and other gathering places to ensure they heed to the advice from ministry.

"We know religious places, schools and other gathering places attract huge numbers, so you need to ensure that you put in place preventable measures, it's a matter of prevention before the situation goes out of hand" he said
