Victim of Moroto Bee Attack on Police Station Dies

Emmanuel Ekaru, one of three people hospitalised following a bee attack at Camp Swahili Police Station in Moroto, has succumbed to his injuries.
Medics at Moroto Regional Referral Hospital confirmed that while Ekaru initially showed signs of recovery, his condition unexpectedly deteriorated, leading to his death despite their efforts.
“We did everything in our power to stabilize him, but his condition worsened unexpectedly,” said a physician at the hospital who preferred anonymity.
A requiem mass for Ekaru was held at Regina Mundi Catholic Church Cathedral, where friends and family mourned his loss.
"We are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Ekaru was a kind and hardworking individual," said Mary Adupa, a close friend.
Two other victims of the attack remain hospitalized as they recover from their injuries.
In response to the incident, police have urged the public to exercise caution, particularly in areas prone to bee activity.
“We urge the public to stay alert and report any unusual swarms of bees to local authorities,” said Karamoja Police Spokesperson Mike Longole.
The Moroto attack coincided with a similar incident in Abim District, where a swarm disrupted proceedings at the Abim Magistrate’s Court, causing panic among attendees.
No fatalities were reported in the Abim incident.
Authorities are investigating the causes of the unusual bee behavior. Residents are advised to avoid disturbing hives and to seek immediate medical attention if stung.
