The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has praised the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for its significant contributions to Uganda’s development.
This recognition came during his meeting with Mr. Ando Naoki, JICA’s senior vice president, where they discussed key ongoing and future projects.
JICA’s work in Uganda includes substantial infrastructure projects such as Lot II of the Kampala Flyover project and the reconstruction of the Karuma Bridge.
These are part of a broader commitment to supporting Uganda’s economic transformation.
Gen. Muhoozi commended JICA for its alignment with Uganda’s priorities, its respect for local contexts, and its comprehensive contributions to sectors like agriculture, health, education, and water access.
He also highlighted their support in northern Uganda and refugee assistance efforts.
JICA’s role in Uganda reflects Japan’s recognition of the country as a key player in East Africa’s stability and development.
Mr. Naoki reaffirmed Japan’s dedication to Uganda’s growth, echoing the sentiments established during Gen. Muhoozi’s visit to Japan, where he engaged with Japanese military and political leaders, including General Yoshihide Yoshida of the Japan Self-Defence Forces.
These engagements underline a strengthening partnership, with Japan supporting Uganda’s oil and gas industry and providing technical expertise for capacity building.
Such collaborations signal a shared commitment to Uganda’s inclusive development and regional stability.
