On October, 1 2024 Uganda's law enforcement agencies launched a probe into Nyombi, a prominent climate activist, after allegations surfaced about his involvement in the LGBTQ+ community.

The recent exposure has sparked intense interest, particularly among police officials, who are now collaborating with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine the best course of action.

This development comes hot on the heels of the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023, which criminalizes homosexual behavior and related practices in Uganda.

The stakes are high, with severe penalties looming for those found guilty, including capital punishment for repeat offenders and a 20-year sentence for promoting homosexuality.

In a dramatic twist, Mwanje Umaru was arrested at Border between Uganda and Tanzania on 25th September just days after Nyombi Morris had escaped through Kenya, revealing shocking details about Nyombi Morris's alleged recruitment tactics.

According to Umaru, Morris approached him and his friends at Entebbe's Shaka Zulu restaurant on July 13, 2022, offering 2 million Ugandan shillings to promote homosexuality. Those who accepted the offer were promised an additional shs500,000 .

Umaru claimed that Morris's efforts had already borne fruit, with over 260 youths recruited and a WhatsApp group created to facilitate communication.

As authorities scramble to apprehend Morris, who reportedly fled to Europe on Monday morning, Entebbe's police chief has vowed to bring him to justice.

Nyombi  now faces 20 years in prison, plus an additional 5 years for allegedly promoting a "western agenda" in schools and luring young people into "satanic behavior" in a predominantly Christian nation.

Meanwhile, Morris's organization, Earth Volunteers, is under scrutiny for its funding sources, which allegedly bankroll homosexual clubs in at least 33 secondary schools – a number that may be significantly higher.
