The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has released the latest figures on the country's religious demographics, providing insight into the diverse spiritual landscape.
According to Dr Hellen Nviiri, director of population and social statistics, the breakdown is as follows:
- - Roman Catholics: 37.4%
- - Anglicans: 30%
- - Pentecostals: 14.7%
- - Muslims: 13.6%
- - Seventh Day Adventists: 2.1%
- - No religion: 0.2%
- - Traditional: 0.1%
- - Orthodox: 0.1%
- - Others: 1.7%
"These statistics reflect the rich religious diversity of our nation," Dr. Nviiri noted. "Understanding the demographics of our population is crucial for informed decision-making and policy development."
The data indicates a slight shift in religious affiliations since the last census. The Roman Catholic Church maintains its position as the largest denomination, followed closely by the Anglican Church.
"The numbers demonstrate the significance of faith in Ugandan society," said Dr. Nviiri. "As we move forward, these statistics will guide our efforts to promote interfaith dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence."
