Four pupils killed in Busia school dormitory fire
Police investigate the cause of the fire

At least four pupils have perished in a Monday morning fire incident on a dorminatory of a Busia school, police have confirmed.

One other pupil was sustained serious injuries as fire gutted a boys' dormitory are Busia Victory Nursery and Primary School in the municipality.

By the time of the incident, 62 pupils were inside the dormitory.

Property of the pupils were burnt to ash.

According to the school director, Fred Wabwire, by the time of fire outbreak only one teacher was at school.

Wabwire said the school immediately alerted Busia police fire and rescue team, which made prompt response to contain the fire and rescue the pupils.

A pupil at the school spoke of the anguish they went through witnessing the inferno as police battled to contain it.

The bodies of the victims have been taken to Busia Health Center 1V mortuary and the injured rushed to Mbale referral hospital.

Bukedi South regional police Spokesperson, Moses Mugwe, confirmed the incident.

Much as preliminary findings so far suggests that someone with a hill motive could have planned for the blaze, police insists more investigations into the matter have been launched, calling for public patience.

Getruce Athieno, coordinating Center tutor Dabani, expressed the community’s shock saying they had never experienced such in the district.

Parents flocked the school to pick up their children. This as Police ordered for temporal closure of the School as investigations into the matter take effect.

Some of the parents we spoke to expressed their disappointments with the school administration for allegedly failing to settle their differences.
