The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has officially launched preparations for the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s (UMSC) 50th anniversary celebration, scheduled for December 12, 2024.

The launch event was held at the UMSC headquarters, following a series of meetings with the UMSC National Executive and the Majlis Al Ulaam (College of Eminent Sheikhs).

In his address, Mufti Mubaje expressed profound gratitude to Allah for the progress and achievements of the UMSC over the past five decades.

He emphasized the council's restoration to a path of civility and growth, highlighting divine guidance as essential to their journey.

"We are indeed humbled and proud to sigh in relief that we now have a magnificent home comparable to what was there before," Mufti Mubaje stated, prompting the audience to respond with chants of "Allah Akbar" (God is the greatest).

He likened leadership to a bicycle rider navigating a difficult path, underscoring the need for balance and persistence.

The Mufti called on Muslims and all Ugandans, regardless of their religious backgrounds, to support the upcoming anniversary celebrations.

He announced that international dignitaries have been invited to the event, including the Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) from Saudi Arabia, ministers responsible for Islamic affairs from various Muslim countries, and renowned Muslim preacher Dr. Zakir Naik, who is set to deliver the keynote address.

Prior to Mufti Mubaje's remarks, several UMSC leaders addressed the gathering.

Prof Muhammadi Lubega, UMSC National Chairperson; Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, UMSC Secretary General; and Muhammad Mulumba, Deputy Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, all stressed the importance of collective support from the Muslim community and well-wishers to ensure the anniversary's success.

Prof. Lubega shared details about the upcoming events leading to the grand celebration, which will take place at Kololo National Airstrip Ceremonial Grounds.

Planned activities include the "UMSC Run @50," a symposium aimed at establishing an Eastern African Muslim Leaders Forum, and a meeting of regional Muftis.
