Security guards shoot one dead in foiled factory robbery in Jinja

Security guards have shot a  suspected thug  dead and arrested another  in a foiled night factory robbery in Jinja.

The incident occurred at Abyssinia Iron and Steel Factory in Jinja on Saturday at 9:00Pm.

In a Police statement issued on Sunday, Kiira Region Police spokesperson James Mubi said the deceased was part of the gangsters who sneaked into the guarded factory and attempted to steal scrap.

"They were caught red handed inside the factory with stolen scrap and they attempted to run. That is when the security guards opened fire and shot one dead  and arresting another one," Mubi said.

He added that Police have embarked a hunt for other thugs who managed to take off.

"We recovered the exhibits (stolen scrap) and we are hunting for others at large."

The deceased was identified as Reagan while the suspect is 24 year old John Buwale both residents of Walukuba-Danida in Jinja City.

Despite Police intensified operations, Walukuba-Danida and Masese slums remain the top den for criminals in and around Jinja City
