Five parish chiefs, sacco leaders arrested over extorting from PDM beneficiaries in Rubanda
The Rubanda district acting RDC, Eric Ssewandingi has ordered the arrest of five parish chiefs and Sacco leaders in Ikumba sub-county and Nshanjare town council over extortion of parish development model beneficiaries.
The suspects have been identified as Lius Tumwesigye, Unique Atuheire, Gerald Tumwesigye, Elias Ahimbisibwe and Justus Mwesigye who are accused of extorting between shs50,000 and 100,000 from PDM beneficiaries.

“We managed to arrest and recover shs 2.5million from Justus Tumwesigye, Ezera Arineitwe and Gerald Tumwesigye. These individuals were collecting 50,000from each beneficiary of the Parish Development Model. I got I whistleblower and I had to send my intelligence network down and we gathered information which was true. I summoned the committee which came this morning and after that they accepted and the money was recovered," Ssewandingi said.
He stated that Elias Tumwesigye, the chairperson and Unique Atuheire, the treasurer of the Ikumba Parish Development Model sacco extorted between shs50,000 to 100,000 from over 15 PDM beneficiaries.
Ssewandingi rallied the public to report any case of extortion.
“I call upon the general public not to fear giving us information. They should give us information and we clean up. The district will continue to monitor where we are going to check on all sub-counties and parishes to get out people collecting money from parish development model beneficiaries. It’s a free service and we don’t except anyone to collect money and we shall arrest whoever has done it. So far, these ones are already in cells and good enough, money is already with us. "
