The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence has opened a showroom for armored vehicles along Entebbe Road.
NEC is 2019 entered into MOU with UAE-based Streit Group to start manufacturing armored vehicles locally.
Speaking during the function at Abayita Ababiri, NEC Managing Director, Lt Gen James Mugira said the move is aimed at bringing their products, especially armored vehicles close to their clients.
“These showrooms are crucial for business success because they are interactive as they allow customers physically interact with products and enable them see, touch and experience the products in person,” Lt Gen Mugira said.
He said the showroom will also give clients opportunity to inspect the product samples and get to know them better before procurement.
“This in a way enhances customer interaction and foster a deep understanding of NEC-Streit capabilities and what the brand offers. Since our plant is in Nakasongola which is 139 kilometres from Kampala and is also within a military complex not accessible to everyone, in order to ensure visbility, we decided to open a showroom.”
According to Lt Gen Mugira, the showroom is strategically located along the Kampala-Entebbe highway to display the locally manufactured products.
“Our capacity as a facility in Nakasongola is 40 armored vehicles per month . We have markets both internal and external.”
The chairman of Streit Group is Guerman Goutorov said the company always invests in new technology.
“The showroom will allow people to come and see what we do and the new technology we have and see the right products for the right missions. Any product you require in terms of security, we have them as we are experts in this field,” Goutorov.
“If a country is going through massive development, we have to protect it and its people. “
The State Minister for Defence in charge of Veteran Affairs, Huda Oleru hailed NEC-Streit for the milestone that she said reflects to Uganda’s efforts for self-reliance.
“It shows our commitment to providing top notch protection solutions for both security and civilian vehicles. This will also help us earn foreign exchange through the sale of these armored vehicles but also to show the world what Uganda is capable of doing,” Hyuda said.
