Officials join locals in cleaning Kyangwali

Community members around the shores of Lake Albert In Kyangwali sub county Kikuube District have been encouraged to maintain cleanliness so as to avoid contracting diseases resulting from poor hygiene.

Residents at the shores of Lake Albert have always been hit by diseases like cholera being caused by poor hygienic conditions.

The call was made by the Kikuube resident District Commissioner Amlan Tumusiime while spearheading the belated Tarehe Sita activities at Buhuka Landing Site in Kyangwali Sub-County Kikuube District.

Tumusiime says such diseases can be contained if the community members embrace good hygiene around the shores of Lake Albert.

"We know cholera and other diseases here come as a result of poor hygiene, so i want to implore to ensure that you live a proper hygiene life" He said

Meanwhile, Captain Andrew Nayebale Officer in charge Kingfisher Development area reveals that they have decided to conduct a cleaning exercise at the landing sites around the  area because most landing sites are known not to be doing well in terms of sanitation.

"People believe at landing sites there is supposed to be good hygiene given the businesses around there, but with this place hygiene is still lacking and this is the reason why we chose cleaning here" He noted

Besides, Tumusiime urged people to embrace the government and avoid the bad fishing habits.

"Government has put in a lot of money into PDM, so you the fishing community can tap into that money," Tumusiime said

However, the residents have commended the army for cleaning their area.

Emmanuel Bisemeza the LC 3 chairman Kyangwali said this is a good gesture.

"UPDF by then was at a distance but now UPDF is for the people, we want to thank them for coming to clean our area and we are sure their is been mindset by the community" He said
