The Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) Board opened the year in high spirits, reflecting on significant achievements and unveiling an ambitious plan to position Uganda as a competitive tourism destination.

The board reviewed progress in areas such as stakeholder engagement, corporate governance, resource mobilization, and the enhancement of the national destination brand identity.

During the meeting, the Board took stock of its achievements to date, with key milestones celebrated.

Stakeholder engagement was noted as a cornerstone of success, fostering greater collaboration between the government, the private sector, and other players in the tourism ecosystem.

The Board reaffirmed its dedication to addressing sector challenges through partnerships. Among the priorities discussed were sustainable funding mechanisms and favorable policy reforms to enhance the tourism sector's growth.

Plans to revamp UTA’s brand identity and digital presence were also tabled, aimed at increasing visibility and engagement both locally and internationally.

Prof. Edwin Sabuhoro, the Technical Advisor to the Board, delivered a keynote address focusing on the importance of strong corporate governance, teamwork, and accountability as pillars for achieving UTA’s strategic goals.

“The success of UTA lies in creating a united and collaborative team. Individual efforts must align with the shared vision, as the organization’s achievements depend on collective input,” Prof. Sabuhoro stated.

He further emphasized that accountability mechanisms are critical in maintaining trust and focus within the Board.

“Each member should take responsibility for their roles and actions to ensure the collective success of the team. Clear accountability mechanisms are essential for maintaining trust and focus,” he added.

In her address, UTA President Mrs. Yogi Biriggwa called for a more functional organization that actively responds to the needs of stakeholders in the tourism sector.

She stressed the importance of an association that not only supports but also advocates for the private sector's growth.

“Our priority is to build a UTA that fights for the interests of the private sector while fostering collaboration across all levels. A united approach is essential for tackling the challenges we face,” she remarked.

With the groundwork laid during this strategic meeting, UTA is set to embark on a transformative journey in 2025.

The focus will remain on inclusivity, corporate governance, resource mobilization, and innovative strategies to elevate Uganda’s tourism sector to new heights.

The Board aims to create a tourism sector that not only competes on the global stage but also delivers meaningful benefits to Ugandans, particularly women and youth.
