A 16-year-old senior two student from Busolwe Seed School, Mwajuma Nankya, has given birth to quadruplets at Busolwe Hospital in Butaleja District, drawing renewed attention to the issue of teenage pregnancy in the region.

Nankya, a resident of Namulemu Village in Butaleja Town Council, delivered the four premature babies at just 29 weeks into her first pregnancy.

Dr. David Okanya, the Medical Superintendent at Busolwe Hospital, confirmed that all four newborns are girls, weighing 1.3 kg, 1.2 kg, 1.1 kg, and 1.4 kg, respectively.

Due to the premature delivery, Dr. Okanya said the mother and her babies have been transferred to Mbale Referral Hospital for specialized neonatal care.

“Given the premature delivery, we had to ensure the mother and her babies receive the best possible care. They have been transferred to Mbale Referral Hospital for neonatal management, and we are in constant communication with the team there. I am pleased to report that both the mother and her children are currently doing well,” he stated.

The father of the quadruplets is reportedly a student at a secondary school within Butaleja District, further highlighting the complex social challenges facing the young family.

Butaleja District has previously made headlines for producing the youngest grandmother in the country, underscoring the persistent problem of teenage pregnancies in the area.

The birth of these quadruplets emphasizes the urgent need for more education and resources to prevent teenage pregnancies and support young mothers.

Healthcare providers, including Dr. Okanya, are expected to continue closely monitoring the health of Mwajuma Nankya and her quadruplets as they receive ongoing care at Mbale Referral Hospital.
