Deceased NRM boss, Aleper laid to rest
A somber mood enveloped Kangole in Napak district today as hundreds of mourners gathered to bid farewell to the late Simon Peter Aleper, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Karamoja who died in a motor accident.
Aleper, a respected and dedicated leader, received a state burial, marking the first time a government official from Karamoja has been honored in this manner.

President Yoweri Museveni, through a speech delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo, praised Aleper as a loyal cadre who served Uganda with unwavering dedication.
The president also pledged to continue the socio-economic transformation of Karamoja, a region that Aleper passionately advocated for during his lifetime.
"Simon Peter Aleper was a loyal NRM cadre and an exemplary leader," said President Museveni in his tribute.
Vice President Alupo, herself a former student at Kangole Girls School in Napak, reiterated her commitment to working closely with local leaders to advance the region's development.
Among the mourners were government ministers, members of Parliament, NRM Central Executive Committee members, regional council, Delegates from West Pokot and Turkana, all paying their respects to a man who left an indelible mark on Karamoja and Uganda as a whole.
Scholastica Nadiye, Aleper's wife, expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon her late husband.
"I will not take for granted the love you have shown me. I want to thank the President, the NRM family, the clergy, and everyone else who supported us this far." She said
NRM General Secretary Richard Todwong, Minister of Karamoja Affairs Peter Lokeris, and National Vice Chairperson Mike Mukula were also present.
Lokeris thanked the government and the President for ensuring Aleper's dignified send-off, while Mukula called for a thorough investigation into the accident that claimed Aleper's life, reflecting concerns shared by many in attendance.
Simon Peter Aleper has left a legacy for efforts towards the progress and prosperity of Karamoja.
