Forum for Democratic Change Party leaders in Tororo have given the  district local government up to  August,1, to utilize the shs3.6billion  compensation for Tororo hospital staff quarters  affected by the  standard gauge railway project or face action.

In December last year, Tororo district local government received compensation of  shs3.6billion for Tororo hospital staff quarters after the quarters' land got affected by standard gauge railway project.

The compensation was to enable the district shift the affected staff quarters elsewhere to pave way for project kick off.

However, even after demolition of the hospital quarters, six months down the road, the money is yet to be put to use.

Forum for Democratic Change Party leaders in the district are demanding for accountability.

Addressing media, the group questioned why the district has kept silence with the money even when they know the purpose of the money.

" Was the money given to be kept or construct staff quarters? If they have already misused the money, let them tell us" Onghwens Kisangala, district chairperson FDC Katonga function questioned.

The FDC group demand that action be taken against the district leaders for delaying the utilization of the money, terming it corruption.

" The anticorruption body should get to a top of this matter and save the tax payers Monies. This money could be already misused or soon should the government army fail come in," said Gibson Ekiring, the district secretary finance, Katonga function.

The group threatened that should the district fail to put the money into use by August, 1,  they will be left with no option but to lead the population to the district headquarters to demand for accountability.

" Come 1st August, should the district refuse to use this money, we shall rally all Tororians to match the district head offices to demand for their money," said Onghwens Kisangala, the district Chairperson FDC Katonga function.

According to the opposition leaders, the move is part of a countrywide move to ensure that government accounts to its population.

Our attempt to reach out to the district local government authority for comment was futile as they were not in office.
