President Museveni has in his powers as the commander in chief of the armed forces made several changes in the UPDF leadership.

In the changes, Maj Gen Moses Rwakitarate has been appointed as the new commander of vital assets within the UPDF whereas former spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire has been appointed as the new chief of  education, sports and culture.

On the other side, Brig Charles Bakhumura has been sent to Turkey as Uganda’s military attache whereas Brig Mathew Gureme is now Uganda’s defence liaison officer in Tanzania and Brig Gaetano Omolla has bounced back as the commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre in Jinja.

He previously served in the same position  before he was sent to Somalia in December 2022 as the UPDF contingent commander for ATMIS.

Others are  Brig Gen Ham Atwooki Kaija who has been appointed as the Chief Staff Officer for Operation Wealth Creation while  Brig Herbert Mbonye has been appointed as the new police human resource director.

Brig Mbonye will replace Brig Jesse Kamunanwire who is among the UPDF officers set to retire in April from the active service of the Ugandan army.

The changes come a day after the president promoted 395 UPDF officers.
