This expansion is part of the airline's broader strategy to enhance regional connectivity, promote tourism, and build a more efficient air transport network.
During the launch, Minister for Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, Matia Kasaija, urged the airline not only to focus on boosting Uganda's tourism and regional trade but also to foster unity among African nations.
Kasaija highlighted the cultural connections between the countries, sharing his personal experience from a trip to Zambia.
"The last time I was in Lusaka, I saw people dancing to Basoga songs, and I felt at home. With this ease of transport, we should encourage intermarriage as a form of unity," he said.
Uganda Airlines CEO, Jenifer Bamuturaki, expressed excitement about the new routes.
“We are happy to return to the capitals of Zambia and Zimbabwe, countries whose history and culture are closely linked to Uganda,” she said.
Bamuturaki added that the new routes offer more travel options between East and Southern Africa, underscoring the airline’s commitment to providing safe and affordable air transport across the continent.
The flights will be operated using Uganda Airlines' CRJ 900-LR aircraft, which boasts the youngest fleet in Africa.
The new routes will significantly cut travel time between Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe by more than six hours, eliminating lengthy layovers in neighboring hubs.
“These flights are designed to serve both passengers ending their journey in Uganda and those continuing within our network to destinations like Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg, and beyond,” Bamuturaki noted.
Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Uganda, Winpeg Moyo, encouraged travelers to explore the rich culture and beauty of both nations.
“This is a celebration of partnership and potential, and an opportunity for us to strengthen the ties between Zimbabwe and Uganda,” she said.
