UEDCL Allays Fears After Taking Over From Umeme

UEDCL says there is nothing to worry about after taking over from Umeme.

New power distribution company, UEDCL has assured Ugandans of an efficient service after taking over from Umeme last week.

Updating the country about the takeover, UEDCL Managing Director, Paul Mwesigwa said since takeover from Umeme, they have been able to ensure their new vending system is up and running, both online and through banking area.

“ We are now making sure the services on side of customer are being offered smoothly. We have now embarked on network stability,” Mwesigwa said.

There have been fears by members of the public over the potential by the new power distributor to provide the service effectively.

There have also been several complaints from the members of the public since UEDCL’s takeover in regards blackouts.

Speaking on Tuesday, the UEDCL boss said they have already carried out an audit to try and rectify the problems faced by their customers.

“We found that there were 113 transformers around the country which were faulty. Some had spent over three weeks not working . We are now  working on them. Our engineers are now trying to put them back and by end of this week they will be back on. We believe by end of this week all transformers will be up and running,” Mwesigwa said.

He said there were areas where power lines were overloaded, noting that preparations are underway to rectify this problem.

“We have secured relatively cheap funding and with support from the regulator, we asure the public that the service will be seamless.”
