Kyabazinga to lead epic climb at Kagulu Festival
Kagulu Hill is a towering monolith in the heart of Busoga Kingdom. It’s not just a geographical feature; it’s hallowed ground.
According to tradition, the progenitor of the Basoga people, Namutukula, and his wife Nawudo, found refuge here after fleeing Bunyoro.
This majestic hill became the birthplace of the five princes from whom the Kyabazinga, the King of Busoga, is chosen.
Under the leadership of Kyabazinga Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, the kingdom has embarked on a mission.
The goal is to transform Kagulu Hill into a major tourist attraction.
The annual Kagulu Hill Festival is the highlight of this initiative. It promises a thrilling blend of culture, adventure, and competition.
This year’s event kicks off with a Miss Tourism pageant. Beauties from all eleven chiefdoms will vie for the crown.
On August 17, the ultimate test of endurance begins. The ascent of the 3,600-foot hill awaits.
Kyabazinga himself will lead the climb. His leadership will inspire thousands to conquer the peak.
The festival also showcases the rich culture of Busoga. Traditional food, attire, local music, and dance will be on display.
A mini zoo will add an educational dimension to the event.
Minister for Tourism Hellen Namutamba sees huge potential in Kagulu Hill.
“Climbing Kagulu is not just about adventure; it’s a journey through time,” she says.
“It’s a connection to our ancestors and a fantastic workout!”
As the kingdom prepares, anticipation is building. Kagulu Hill is ready to shine.
It stands as a symbol of Busoga’s heritage. It’s a beacon for adventure seekers and cultural enthusiasts alike.
