In his homily, Archbishop Ssemogerere expressed deep appreciation to President Museveni for his longstanding support of the Church, urging him to see through the completion of ongoing works at the Bukalango Prayer Worship Centre.

WAKISO – Thousands of Catholic faithful, government officials, and mourners gathered at Kisubi Seminary in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, on Monday to pay their final respects to Msgr Expedito Magembe, who passed away on May 9, 2025, at Nsambya Hospital.

The burial ceremony began with a solemn requiem mass led by the Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, who called on the faithful to give thanks to God for Msgr Magembe’s life of service.

In his homily, Archbishop Ssemogerere expressed deep appreciation to President Museveni for his longstanding support of the Church, urging him to see through the completion of ongoing works at the Bukalango Prayer Worship Centre.

“We appreciate President Museveni’s support to the Church and request his full commitment to completing the projects at Bukalango Prayer Worship Centre,” said the Archbishop.

Representing the government, Minister for Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala delivered a message on behalf of President Museveni, who praised Msgr Magembe’s lifetime of service to the Church and nation.

“Msgr Expedito Magembe fostered interfaith collaboration among religious leaders and their communities, and dedicated himself to the Catholic Church, particularly in supporting youth, aiding the needy, and nurturing a love for God,” read the President’s message.

Dr Andrew Ssekitoleko, director of Nsambya Hospital, shared insight into Msgr Magembe’s final months, revealing that he had been battling a severe illness since January.

“Despite numerous tests, medical experts discovered the disease was in an advanced stage, limiting treatment to pain management,” Dr Ssekitoleko explained.

Family, friends, and religious colleagues described Msgr Magembe as a gifted and passionate servant of God.

They recalled his musical talent in composing religious hymns and his tireless efforts to guide and inspire young people through faith.

“He was a talented man of God who nurtured the youth with creativity and shared God’s message passionately,” one relative shared.

At the time of his passing, Msg Magembe was the director of the Bukalango Prayer Worship Centre, a role in which he continued to inspire devotion and unity among believers.

He was laid to rest at Kisubi Seminary, remembered not only as a man of deep faith but also as a unifying figure whose life embodied service, compassion, and dedication to the mission of the Church.
