President Museveni has approved the creation of three new districts—Mukuju, Mulanda, and a third to be named by stakeholders—along with the elevation of Tororo Municipality to Tororo City.
The announcement followed a peace-building meeting at State House Entebbe attended by regional leaders and officials.
The new administrative units aim to enhance service delivery and ease long-standing ethnic tensions between the Japadhola and Itesot communities.
Mukuju will comprise Tororo County North and South, Mulanda will cover West Budama South and Central, while the unnamed district includes West Budama North and North-East.
The restructuring is informed by the London Report and will feed into Uganda’s electoral roadmap ahead of the next general elections.
