Four people have been arrested to assist police in investigations into the death of Senior Superintendent of Police Julius Ahimbisibwe, whose body was discovered under unclear circumstances in a septic tank at his residence in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
Ahimbisibwe, who once served as the Jinja Road Divisional Police Commander, was found with a rope around his neck, raising immediate speculation of suicide. However, police say they have not ruled out other possibilities.
Sources told The Nile Post that the deceased’s wife, a shamba boy, a neighbour, and the area defence secretary were taken into custody as part of the initial inquiries. “These were the first responders after the incident happened,” a source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said on Monday that investigations remain open and are not limited to suicide as the cause of death. “We want the outcome of the postmortem to establish what exactly was the cause of the death, because just having a rope on somebody’s neck is not enough to confirm suicide,” Rusoke said.
He added that police would follow all necessary procedures to determine the truth behind the death of the senior officer.
SSP Ahimbisibwe had reportedly been facing both disciplinary and criminal proceedings linked to an incident from last year that led to his suspension. “He was subjected to both disciplinary and criminal proceedings and at some point he went on remand. We shall provide details regarding the matter as investigations continue,” Rusoke added.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
