Police in Kampala have kicked off investigations into circumstances surrounding the death of one of their own, Senior Superintendent of Police, Julius Ahimbisibwe.
Ahimbisibwe , who was the then Jinja Road Division Police Commander was last year suspended pending investigation after he allegedly had domestic violence related issues that resulted into the shooting of his ex-wife .
However, on Monday morning, his body was found with a rope around the neck in a septic tank at his home in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district under unclear circumstances.
Police spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the police commander’s death but said investigations will indicate what exactly happened.
“We want the outcome of the postmortem to establish what exactly was the cause of the death because just having a rope in somebody’s neck is not enough to confirm suicide,” Rusoke told the Nile Post.
He said Police will follow proper procedures to be able to ascertain the exact cause of the death of one of their own.
The Police spokesperson confirmed that the deceased had been facing both disciplinary and charges related to last year’s incident which led to his suspension.
“He was subjected to both disciplinary and criminal proceedings and at some point he went on remand. We shall provide details regarding the matter as investigations continue,” Rusoke said.
The deceased’s body has been taken to the Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem, as part of the ongoing investigations into the matter.
