Busoga Kingdom, MTN Launch Second Edition of Cycling Championship
Each chiefdom will send two cyclists per category to the grand finale on February 15, 2025.
The Busoga Kingdom, in partnership with MTN Uganda, has launched the second edition of the MTN Busoga Cycling Championship.
The event, held at the kingdom's headquarters in Bugembe, was presided over by the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, who delighted attendees with his cycling skills during the flag-off.

The Katukiro (Prime Minister) of Busoga emphasised the importance of fairness and integrity in the championship, urging participants to avoid cheating.
"This year, we want transparency. An honest winner will bring more pride than one who cheats," he said, calling on security to ensure no cyclist receives assistance during the race.
Competition Details
The championship will feature two categories: mountain bikes and ordinary bicycles (locally known as Gaali Ensoga). Preliminary races will take place from January 18 to February 2, 2025, across the eleven chiefdoms of Busoga.
Each chiefdom will send two cyclists per category to the grand finale on February 15, 2025.
Winners in each category will receive brand-new motorcycles, while first runners-up will earn Shs2 million.
Second runners-up will be awarded Shs1 million, with Shs500,000 and Shs300,000 going to the fourth and fifth place finishers, respectively.
All other participants will receive Ush 50,000 as apreciation.
Preliminary Race Schedule
- January 18, 2025: Luuka and Bulamogi
- January 19, 2025: Bukooli and Bunhole
- January 25, 2025: Busiki and Bunha
- January 26, 2025: Bugabula and Bukono
- February 1, 2025: Kigulu and Bugweri
- February 2, 2025: Butembe
John Paul Okwi, MTN Uganda’s sponsorship and events manager, expressed pride in supporting the championship.

Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, praised MTN Uganda for its consistent support since the championship began in 2022.
"MTN has been a reliable partner, helping us grow this event into a major regional activity," he noted.
Previous Achievements
The 2022 inaugural edition saw Bukooli win the Tippa category and Butembe claim victory in the Mountain Sport Bike category.
With greater anticipation for this year’s edition, the Busoga Cycling Championship promises to be an exciting and unifying event, celebrating sportsmanship and regional pride.
