Busia District is buzzing with excitement as Uganda prepares to mark its 62nd Independence Day under the theme, "A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify Our Destiny."

Located in the Bukedi subregion, the district is adorned with vibrant national colours, creating a festive atmosphere in anticipation of the significant event tomorrow.

From the heart of Busia Town to the venue at Busikho PTC Grounds in Masafu Town Council, the national colours provide a warm welcome to the thousands of guests expected to attend the celebrations.

The excitement is palpable, and preparations are well underway.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), along with other security forces, have been conducting parade rehearsals to ensure that all units are ready for a flawless display.

"This time around, the parade will be unique. We are more than ready for this event," stated Basalirwa confidently.

In addition to parade preparations, graders have been deployed to level the grounds at Busikho PTC, ensuring they are firm and secure to accommodate the anticipated crowds.

Officials estimate that over 3,500 special guests from within Uganda and neighbouring countries will attend the celebration.

"We expect thousands of guests from both within and outside the country. From Kenya alone, we anticipate two hundred special guests," remarked Denis Nyangweso, the Member of Parliament for Samia Bugwe Central.

Local leaders are optimistic about the significance of hosting such a major national event in Busia, a district within the Bukedi subregion.

Geoffrey Macho, the Member of Parliament for Busia Municipality, expressed pride in the opportunity for the district to shine on a national stage.

"We thank God for hosting this day here. This subregion was recently ranked the second poorest in the country. We believe the President will address this and bring hope to the people of Bukedi," Macho said.

The Independence Day celebrations, which will draw thousands of people from all corners of the country, represent more than just a day of pride. For Bukedi, one of Uganda’s most impoverished subregions, it is also an opportunity to gain national attention, raise awareness of its challenges, and seek development opportunities.

With just hours to go, Busia is ready for a memorable celebration, with residents and visitors alike looking forward to a day filled with national pride, reflection, and renewed commitment to securing a brighter future for Uganda.
