Govt deploys engineers to investigate Kasese flooding crisis
River Nyamwamba is prone to bursting its banks

The engineers have been tasked with identifying the root causes of the recurrent floods and are expected to submit a comprehensive report within a month.

The Office of the President has directed the Office of the Prime Minister to deploy a team of engineers to Kasese District to assess the persistent flooding of River Nyamwamba and develop long-term solutions.

The engineers have been tasked with identifying the root causes of the recurrent floods and are expected to submit a comprehensive report within a month.

Hon. Kambale Ferigo, Member of Parliament for Kasese Municipality, confirmed that the team is working under a strict deadline to address an issue that has affected the region for years.

"The team of engineers has been given one month to present their findings and propose solutions to the flooding. We are optimistic that this will finally bring relief to the people of Kasese," said MP Ferigo.

River Nyamwamba, notorious for its destructive floods, has caused significant damage to homes, farmlands, and infrastructure in Kasese District.

This year alone, the floods displaced over 200 households, leaving many without shelter or access to basic necessities.

The Uganda Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister, has stepped in to support affected families by providing relief items such as bedding, cooking utensils, and other essential supplies.

Cliff Wamala, Red Cross Communications Officer, emphasized the importance of timely intervention in the wake of such disasters, while also calling for sustainable measures to prevent future occurrences.

The floods have become an annual catastrophe in Kasese, and local communities are hopeful that the government's intervention will finally result in a lasting solution.

The forthcoming report by the engineering team is expected to outline the necessary steps to mitigate the flooding and protect lives and property.
