In the soft cries of a 5-month-old boy lies a heart-breaking story of hope, despair, and an urgent cry for help. Baby Titus Murungi Kasoke, born to Jockus Kuhanda and his wife, fights for his life in Mulago Referral Hospital, his tiny body unable to endure the heart failure that gripped him shortly after birth.

The doctors have offered a sliver of hope: a specialized surgery in India. But that hope comes with a daunting price tag UGX 60 million.

For Titus’ young parents, who both work as low-wage staff at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Hotel, the burden is unbearable. Jockus, a waiter, and his wife, a housekeeper, face the cruel reality that their combined earnings cannot save the most precious person in their lives.

"All I heard was, ‘It’s not good,’ and then a smattering of words. My brain slowed down; I couldn’t focus on what the doctor was telling me," Jockus recalls, his voice breaking.

The diagnosis sent shockwaves through their lives. Titus, once expected to grow strong, now relies on feeding through a catheter, unable to even enjoy the comfort of nursing from his mother.

His frail condition worsens daily, and the hospital’s limitations force the couple to consider sending their baby to India for a life-saving operation a journey that, without financial intervention, they cannot make.

“I’ve lived, but he’s just starting his life. Why him and not me?” Jockus laments, wiping away tears as he tries to comprehend the depth of his son's suffering.

Despite the darkness that looms over their future, the couple still clings to moments of joy and laughter, though now overshadowed by pain.

"Even in the midst of incredible sorrow, you must find those moments of joy," Titus’ mother says, her voice filled with helplessness. "But I’ve failed."

The clock is ticking, and every day that passes without treatment brings Titus closer to an uncertain fate. For Jockus and his wife, the UGX 60 million needed for the surgery is an insurmountable amount.

Desperate, they appeal to the generosity of the community, hoping that kind hearts will hear their plea.

Every donation, no matter how small, could be the difference between life and death for baby Titus. As the family endures the deepest sorrow any parent can face, they ask for your help in giving their son the chance to live.
