NBS Sport is set to deliver live coverage of Kitara Football Club’s landmark CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first-leg match against Al Hilal Benghazi.
The broadcast kicks off tomorrow, Friday at 7 pm, marking a historic moment for Kitara as they make their debut in continental competition after their triumphant Stanbic Uganda Cup win last season.
This match represents a significant milestone in Kitara's journey, and NBS Sport is excited to bring this momentous occasion to viewers across the nation.
Joseph Kigozi, general manager of NBS Sport, expressed his excitement about broadcasting Kitara’s debut on the continental stage.
“We are thrilled to showcase Kitara as they represent Uganda on this significant platform," he said.
"They are one of those teams that captured the hearts of many last season. Their story is inspiring, and they hail from a region that lives and breathes football."
Kigozi, who also serves as the Deputy CEO of Next Media Group, said the broadcast is not just about football, but about fostering unity and pride for Uganda.
“We want our viewers to experience the energy and excitement of this historic moment," he said.
"Kitara is competing at the continental level, and they deserve our support as they raise our flag. We hope they secure an important win away from home,” he added.
Earlier this week, Kitara president Deo Kasozi, currently in Libya with the team, hinted at a potential future partnership with NBS Sport during an appearance on the channel’s Premier Sport show.
"We are looking forward to solidifying an arrangement where NBS Sport becomes our official partner," Kasozi said during a Zoom interview on Monday.
Under the guidance of head coach Brian Ssenyondo, the Kitara squad arrived in Benghazi on Tuesday, ready to embrace the challenges of their historic debut.
The team departed Uganda early Monday morning, with a brief stopover in Cairo before reaching their final destination.
Despite facing logistical hurdles, including playing both legs of the preliminary round in Libya, the mood within the Kitara camp remains optimistic.
Striker Denis Omedi, who recently thrilled fans with a stunning Rabona goal in Kitara’s FUFA Super 8 match against KCCA, expressed confidence ahead of the match.
“We are ready to give our all in this game. Our fans back home should know that we are here to fight for good results,” Omedi declared.
Kitara’s path to this historic moment was paved by their victory over NEC in the Uganda Cup. While their opponents, Al Hilal Benghazi, may not be giants of African football, Kitara is aware of the need to approach the tie with caution.
Though Al Hilal has limited CAF experience, with just two previous appearances in 2001 and 2003, the stakes are high, and Kitara will need to bring their A-game to secure a favorable result.
The return leg of this preliminary round will also take place in Libya on August 23, with Kitara planning to stay in Benghazi to fully prepare for both fixtures.
The winner of the tie will advance to face Egypt’s Al Masry in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
