I left FDC but I cannot join NUP - Munyagwa
Mubarak Munyagwa

Former Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa has revealed that he left opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).

He says he left the party because of poor management by the current leadership.

Appearing on Sanyuka TV, Munyagwa said despite leaving FDC, he still maintains political allies within the party.

“I left FDC. I don’t subscribe to any party at the moment. I only have political allies like Dr Kiiza Besigye. Political parties are not meant to be perceived as religion,” he said.

Pointing fingers at FDC and National Unity Platform (NUP), the outspoken political analyst criticized parties with unclear direction and expressed his freedom to switch parties if necessary.

Munyagwa stated that he cannot join NUP as he believes in independence and does not want to be influenced by a party controlled by its leader's music label, Firebase.

“I cant stay in a party that is poorly managed. That’s why I can’t join NUP. No body can own my head. There’s no one in NUP that can lead me. I am a liberated person. NUP is not a political party but Firebase,” the former legislator said.

Throughout his political career, Munyagwa has been an active member of FDC and served as the MP for Kawempe South from 2016 to 2021 on the party’s ticket. Before that, he had served as the Kawempe Division Mayor for another five years.

However, in 2021 elections, Munyagwa lost his Parliamentary seat to NUP’s Bashir Kazibwe, after polling a paltry 3,788 votes against the winner’s 26,855.

Despite his loss in the 2021 elections, Munyagwa remains a prominent political figure in Uganda, and is rumoured to be plotting a comeback in 2026 general elections.
