Statistics body, UBOS has said so far 10.4 million households have been enumerated during the ongoing national housing and population census.

Updating the country on the status of the ongoing exercise, Godfrey Nabong, the deputy Executive Director for UBOS said they are happy with the progress of the exercise.

“By midnight yesterday, we had covered 10.4 million households,” Nabong said.

Starting on May, 10, the census exercise was slated to be done in 10 days ending Sunday, May 19 but on Saturday, UBOS announced an extension of the exercise for five more days up to May, 25.

This extension was meant to ensure areas that had not been covered and households not reached are enumerated.

Commeting about the same on Monday, the UBOS deputy Executive Director said the five extra days are for a mop up exercise to ensure every household is reached.

“Many people in urban areas were  not available during the day which caused delay in completing the exercise as enumerators had to go and check their availability. The extension is to ensure every household is covered,” Nabong said.

He insisted that the extension will enable enumerators complete their tasks as given to them by the statistics body, adding that it is not a fresh assignment.

“Its not new or fresh assignment but continuous assignment for enumerators to complete the job they were assigned. We want to ensure by the time this period is done, everybody is covered.”

Nabong mentioned areas like Greater Kampala, Kaabong, Amudat, Karenga, and a number of urban areas where some households were not enumerated to be covered during the extra five days.
