VP Alupo salutes Gen Igumba effort in professionalising army

JINJA | Vice-President Jessica Alupo has commended the commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka, Major-General George Igumba for his great role in helping the government professionalise the national army.

VP Alupo, a retired major, made the remarks while presiding over the launch of Gen Igumba's autobiography at civil service college in Jinja City.

The book, "Born to Win", details the General's 40-year army career.

At the launch of a autobiography, Alupo was welcomed by UPDF senior army officers led by Gen  Ivan Koreta and other dignitaries.

Alupo commended Igumba for his great role in helping the government and President Museveni in professionalising the UPDF, citing his "integrity, hard work and heart of patriotism of his nation".

She also revealed that President Museveni has asked the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence to offer a token of Shs150 million as a contribution for his book and also buying 500 copies for various libraries across the country.

Alupo later bought two copies of the book at Shs20 million and asked the public to also buy copies of the book for learning experiences.

Gen Igumba, the highest ranked army officer in Busoga sub-region, said that he authored the book to inspire other people in various professions that can pursue their goals and succeed

Igumba narrated some of the achievements and challenges he has passed through his army career and hailed his family and supervisors for their support.

Some of the army officers and politicians who attended the launch of the book hailed Igumba for his good work and character in service

The Defence and Military Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulaigye, commended Igumba for the achievement that he said will help other people to learn from him and being patient to achieve success.
