Mukono boda killings: CMI operative takes refuge at Police after mob attack

The mob had hours earlier lynched two youths they accused of involvement in the murder of two boda boda operators in Wabununu Village. 

MUKONO | An operative allegedly attached to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) was Friday forced to take refuge at Mukono Police Station after an irate mob attacked his home.

The mob, seeking further retribution for the killing of two boda boda operators on Thursday night, attacked the home of Mr Kenneth Mugobesha, knocking down doors and windows and destroying his banana plantation.

The home in Wabununu Village in Katoogo Parish, Nama Sub-county, was looted with other household items such as sofa sets, beds and clothes - including military gear - set on fire.

The mob had hours earlier lynched two youths they accused of involvement in the murder of two boda boda operators in Wabununu Village.

Mr Mugobesha, an alleged CMI operative, is accused of running a gang that has been terrorising the village.

The pandemonium was sparked off after a Thursday night robbery in which Sande Mawanda and Richard Semanda were killed and their bodies dumped in sand mining pits.

Boda boda oprators in in Nama Sub-county expressed their dissatisfaction with the security, saying there was lack of will to deal with  criminals as they have been complaining about gangs in the community.

Village leaders led by Mohamod Lule, whilst condemning the mob action, asked the police to provide them with a police post in the area.

Paul Kawombe, the area councillor, condemned the killing and called on the authorities to address the issue of insecurity in Nama.

He also faulted police for taking too long to intervene.

Police in Mukono have since deployed three patrol vehicles with fully armed officers to the area.
