Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has invited all Members of Parliament, regardless of their religious beliefs, to attend the Ash Wednesday service led by Archbishop Samuel Kaziimba at the Anglican Chapel in Parliament.
The service, set for March 5, 2025, at 12:30 pm in the Conference Hall, marks the beginning of the Christian Lent season.
Tayebwa emphasized that the event is open to all, including Catholics and Muslims, as a moment for unity and reflection. “It is a blessing when we have His Grace here. We should go there to welcome him,” he said.
Ash Wednesday marks the start of the 40-day Lent period leading to Easter. The service traditionally includes the imposition of ashes on the foreheads of worshippers, symbolizing repentance and mortality.
Tayebwa encouraged MPs to use the occasion to reflect on their roles in serving the nation and to seek guidance and blessings from Archbishop Kaziimba.
He noted that the event presents an opportunity to foster unity and understanding among leaders.
