The deputy speaker has warned residents from sub counties of Kiyanga, Rwoburunga, Rutookye in Ruhiinda North Constituency mitooma district against destroying water pipes to make waragi.
The deputy speaker who also doubles as the area member of parliament revealed that he has received reports of people doing the dubious behaviour tasking Internal security officers (ISO), Gombolola security officers (GISO) to arrest those involved.
“I have received reports and I want these people arrested and given a report as soon as possible, our people are cutting National water pipes to brew waragi, this is so illegal and irresponsible of some of our people” Tayebwa said.
“National water reported to me that at a place called Kabaale cell adjacent to one Kanyoonyo, a water pipe was cut and people are busy brewing waragi, with all the efforts the government is putting in place to ensure villages have clean water” He added.
Tayebwa noted that such people fail the government and vandalising property taxpayer’s money tasking the security team led by the Resident district commissioner to have the culprits arrested so as to be a lesson to others.
“Government will have to use money it would have invested in a, connecting another village to use it to repair the spoiled pipes, that is dragging us as government and wasting taxpayers money” Tayebwa said.
He revealed that his efforts initially to have all water in the area under national water were frustrated by some individuals until he succeeded and now pipes are being vandalised, linking it to enemies of progress and politics.
“I asked that we have all water under national water some years ago because we would get challenges, people reported and spread rumors that I have sold their free water yet they often asked me to do repairs” Tayebwa revealed.
