Artificial intelligence is evolving fast, and xAI has made a big move by launching Grok as a standalone app. Previously only available within X (formerly Twitter), Grok can now be accessed independently, making it easier for more people to use.
Grok was originally limited to X users, often requiring a premium subscription for more usage. Now, anyone can download it without needing an X account.
The app first launched for iOS in the U.S. in January 2025, later expanding to Australia and India. MacOS and Windows versions are coming soon, and Android users can pre-register for early access.
The app debuts Grok 3, a major upgrade that’s ten times more powerful than before. It excels at answering complex questions, solving math problems, and assisting with coding.
Two key features set it apart: Think Mode, which breaks down problems step by step for better understanding, and Big Brain Mode, which handles advanced queries with deeper analysis.
Grok 3 is already competing with AI tools from OpenAI and Google, proving to be a strong contender.
The standalone app offers wider access, eliminating the need for an X account or subscription. It provides real-time information by pulling in live news and trends from the web, enhances capabilities by summarising documents, analysing images, and supporting research, and delivers a better user experience with a cleaner, faster, and more intuitive interface.
Grok 3 is available through different pricing plans. X Premium Plus includes access for $40 per month, while a SuperGrok Subscription offers additional features for $30 per month. There is also a free plan with limited access, including query caps and fewer features.
Despite its strengths, the app is still in beta, so minor bugs and refinements are expected. Free access is limited, which means frequent users may need to upgrade. Additionally, Grok’s minimal filtering could draw regulatory scrutiny.
xAI’s move to separate Grok from X signals its ambition to rival top AI companies. With a $50 billion valuation and major funding, xAI is serious about bringing AI to more people.
Grok’s standalone launch is a game-changer. Whether for casual use, research, or tech support, it offers a smarter AI experience. Available now on iOS, with MacOS, Windows, and Android versions coming soon, Grok is a tool worth exploring as AI continues to shape our world.
