In a landmark move to unify and empower the Ugandan sports sector, NBS Sport has launched The State of Ugandan Sport — a national symposium designed to bring all stakeholders in the sport together for honest, forward-looking conversations about the future of sport in Uganda.
Announced at a press conference held at Next Media Park, the symposium is scheduled for June 16th and 17th, 2025, and will serve as a national gathering point for athletes, coaches, fans, administrators, policymakers, sponsors, federation heads, and media.
“The vision behind The State of Ugandan Sport is simple but powerful: bring everyone to the table,” said Andrew Kabuura, Head of Sports at NBS Sport.
“Only when all stakeholders are in the room can we have the real, forward-thinking conversations that move Ugandan sport from potential to performance?”
The two-day event will feature morning masterclasses that provide practical skills in areas like leadership, athlete development, branding, and wellness. In the afternoons, attendees will participate in panel discussions covering critical areas such as governance, funding, professionalism, and inclusion.
More than just a conference, the symposium is designed to be a platform for national reflection, recognition, and renewal. It aims to review the current state of sport in Uganda while also celebrating the individuals and institutions driving positive change.
“We’re creating space for recognition as well as reform,” Kabuura added.
“This isn’t about blame—it’s about building together.”
Attending the launch were prominent figures from across the sports landscape, including Nasser Sserunjoji (FUBA), Godwin Kayangwe Arinaitwe(URU) Paul Wasike (Pool Association of Uganda), Joshua Nagenda (KCCA), and Anthony Tumwesigye (Beach Soccer Uganda), all expressing support for a shared space where ideas and accountability can thrive.
NBS Sport, launched in 2022 as Uganda’s first 24/7 sports channel, sees this initiative as the next evolution of its mission—not just to broadcast sport, but to lead conversations that shape it.
“This symposium is not a show—it’s a national platform,” said Nasser Sserunjoji.
“We need more moments like this where we come together, assess where we are, and align on where we want to go.”
The State of Ugandan Sport will be an annual event, creating consistent opportunities for progress and collaboration across every level of the game.
It will be broadcast on NBS Sport, NBS TV, NBS Live, and Afro Mobile.
